Crib Recall
The largest recall in US history has just happened. 1.2 million
cribs made by Stork Craft and distributed through BJ’s Wholesale
Club, Sears, Wal-Mart, Target and Costco have been recalled. 150,000 bear a
Fisher-Price label. Additional information can be found on the
CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) and
Stork Craft web sites and the
Stork Craft Blog.
Please make sure your baby’s crib is not one of these as the problem
is with the drop side which can detach, leaving a space where the
baby can become pinned. The recall is only for cribs with the
drop-side.
Even if your child’s crib isn’t affected by the recall, please
abide by the following crib safety tips:
- Put the baby on his/her back on a firm, tight-fitting mattress in a
crib complying with current safety standards.
- Remove pillows, quilts, comforters, sheepskins, stuffed toys and
other soft products from the crib.
- Consider using a blanket sleeper instead of blankets, with no other
covering.
- If using a blanket, put your baby with his/her feet at the foot of
the crib and then use only a thin blanket.
- Make sure your baby’s head remains uncovered during sleep.
- Never place your baby on a waterbed, sofa, soft mattress, pillow, or
other soft surface to sleep.
